Textured Kitchen
Cloth with three dimensional carrot and peapod.
Supplies:
Yarn: 1 Skein Peaches n Cream T
Knitting Worsted #1- White or #4- Ecru
Carrot: small amount of Elmore Pisgah Country Cotton Cabled Article 940
or Mercerized Perle Cotton Article 960 #45 Orange & # 52 Leaf Green
Pea Pod: small amount of Elmore Pisgah Country Cotton Cabled Article 940
or Mercerized Perle Cotton Article 960 #52 Leaf Green & #56 lime
Needles:
1 Pair size 7 (US) single
needles
1 Pair size 5 (US) double point needles for appliques
Crochet hook
tapestry needle
Abbreviations:
B= Border Stitches
SL= Slip Stitch
M1= make one, slip needle under yarn between the two stitches, put on left
needle and knit.
Ws= wrong side RS= right side
P2tog= purl two stitches together
KF&B= knit into the front of the stitch and in the back of the stitch then
take off the left needle.
Cloth:
Cast on: 38 stitches
Start border in garter or moss stitch. Knit border for one inch begin
pattern below.
Row 1: B4,knit, B4. ( right side )
Row 2: B4, *k1,sl1*, to last 6 stitches, k2,B4.
Row 3: B4,knit, B4.
Row 4: B4,k2,*sl1,k1*,B4.
Repeat these 4 rows till border distance away from desired length. Knit
border, bind off all but three stitches. Slip the last three stitches onto
a double point needle and proceed to make an I Cord loop about 3 inches or
desired length. Bind off and sew to the cloth.
I Cord: knit three stitches, slide stitches to other end of the needle
without turning the work. With thread on the left, keep it behind stitches
and knit the three stitches. Continue this process until desired length is
achieved.
Carrots:
Cast On: 5 stitches in orange
Row 1: knit
Row 2: k1,(m1,k1)x5- 11 stitches
Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 2" from beginning, end
with ws row.
Row 3: k,(k2tog)x5-6 stitches
Row 4: purl
Row 5: (k2tog) x3- 3 stitches
Row 6: purl
Row 7: k1,k2tog-2 stitches.
Row 8: p2tog- 1 stitch, fasten off.
Sew seam and top with carrot leaves.
Carrot leaves:
With crochet hook, join green
thread/ yarn to top of carrot and work 3-7
chain stitches. bind off. create 3 leaves.
Pea Pod:
With medium green thread/yarn.
Cast on: 1 stitch
Row 1: (kf&b)x3- 6 stitches
Row 2: purl
Row 3: k1,(m1,k1)x5-11stitches. Work in stockinette stitch for 3 inches,
end on ws row.
Row 4: purl
Row 5: k1,(k2tog)x5-6 stitches. do not turn, with left needle pass 2nd,
2rd,4th,over first stitch. With three stitches, knit an I cord for 1/2-1
inch for stem, bind off. Weave in ends.
Peas:
With light green thread or yarn.
Cast on: 1
Row 1: (kf&b) x2 in same stitch-5 stitches
Row 2: purl
Row 3: purl
Row 4: purl
Row 5: knit, do not turn with left needle , pass 2,3,4,5th stitch oer 1st
stitch fasten off
Make peas by taking cast on tail and running it around the pea edge, draw
up and secure.
Curlicues:
Chain stitch 6 inches. bind off.
weave in ends. Wrap cord around a needle or pencil. Spray with starch and
when dry attach to cloth tacking down the curls.
Wash appliqués and block. Sew Peas into pea pod. Sew carrot and peapod,
curls to the cloth in either a corner or center of cloth.
