Size:  Approx. 4” high by 7” wide

Materials:

 Pisgah Yarn & Dyeing Co., Inc Article 930H Peaches & Crème 100% cotton worsted wt. (56.7 g. (2 oz.) balls, 122 yds./ball):

 1 ball blue

2 yds. white

1 yd. peach

Size H (5 mm) crochet hook, or size needed to achieve gauge 

Tapestry needle

 Small amount of fiberfill stuffing

Gauge:  14 sts & 16 rows = 4” in single crochet on size H hook

Terms/Abbreviations: beginning (beg), decrease (dec), double crochet (dc), half double crochet (hdc), increase (inc), remaining (rem), repeat (rep), single crochet (sc), single crochet two together (sc2tog), skip (sk), slip (sl), stitch (st), together (tog), triple crochet (trc)

Pattern notes: Crab toy is worked in spiral single crochet technique. Identical front and back pieces are worked, then joined together with single crochet and lightly stuffed.

Crab Body (make 2)

 Rnd 1: Ch 4, join into ring (or use disappearing loop beginning method: wind yarn around forefinger once, insert hook into loop, yo, pull loop through ring), ch 1, work 6 sc into ring (6 sc). Place contrast thread marker to note beginning of rounds and move strand up each round. Work in continuous spiral single crochet method throughout (i.e., do not join, do not turn at end of rounds.) 

Rnd 2:  Work 2 sc in ea sc around, do not join, do not turn (12 sc) 

Rnd 3: Work 2 sc in ea sc around, do not join, do not turn (24 sc) 

Rnd 4: Work 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc, *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, rep from * around, do not join, do not turn (36 sc) 

Rnd 5: Sc in ea sc around, do not join, do not turn (36 sc) 

Rnd 6 (shaping rnd): Sc in first 2 sc, 3 dc in next sc (eye shaping), sc in next 3 sc, 3 dc in next sc (eye shaping), sc in last 29 sc, do not join, do not turn (34 sc, 6 dc) 

Rnd 7 (shaping rnd): Sc in first 15 sts, shape leg as follows: ch 7, sc in 2^nd ch from hk, sc in next ch, dc in next 4 ch, sc in same sc at base of where chain originated (first leg completed); sc in next 6 sc on body, rep leg shaping (second leg completed); sc in next 11 sc on body, rep leg shaping (third leg completed); sc in next 6 sc on body, rep leg shaping (fourth leg completed), sc in last 2 sc on body, join with sl st and fasten off.

Make second piece the same.

Assembly:  Holding both pieces with wrong sides tog, attach yarn to any st on body. Ch 1, sc through both thicknesses in ea st around body, eyes and legs, working 3 sc at outer point of ea leg.  Before closing the opening, stuff lightly with fiberfill. Join with sl st to beg sc and weave in tails.

Face embroidery:  On front of crab, with white embroider 9 ch sts in a smile shape as shown in photo.  With peach, place one French knot in center of each eye.

Weave in all tails.
